sai baba 18 august

At one time Mr. Tarkhad had come to Shirdi, noon meals were ready and plates were being prepared while at the same time a dog came there and began to bark. Mrs. Tarkhad stood quickly and she threw a piece of chapati for the dog. The dog ate it with taste. At evening when she sat in a mosque, Baba asked her :-Mother! Today you fed me with great pleasure, hungry soul got satisfied. Always keep doing so, some time you will really have a reward for it. Sitting in this mosque I will never tell a lie . Always favor me like this. Feed the hungry first and then take your milk. She could not understand the meaning of the words of the Baba , so she questioned :- How can i feed others? I am myself depend on  others and i pay them for the meal. Baba began to say : by accepting that chapati my soul became satisfied and till now i am belching . Before taking the meal the dog you saw and whom you gave a piece of chapati, actually that is my own form. I am wondering in these type of forms . One who visualize me in these living beings he is very dear to me, therefore forgetting duality or discrimination you keep me serving. She became compassionate to accept this nectar preaching and her eyes became wet, throat choked and her pleasure new no bounds.

The Hariyali Teej festival is celebrated to remember the reunion of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, the day when Lord Shiva accepted Goddess Parvati as his wife. Goddess Parvati fasted and was austere for many years and was accepted by Lord Shiva as his wife in her 108 birth. Hence, Teej is celebrated to honor the devotion of Parvati, who is also known as Teej Mata. Teej also welcomes the monsoon and observed in the month of Shravan.

Celebration of Teej

While ritual fasting is central to Teej, the festival is marked by colorful celebrations, especially by the womenfolk, who enjoy swing rides, song and dance. Swings are often hung from trees or placed in the courtyard of homes and decked with flowers. Young girls and married women apply mehendi or henna tattoos on this auspicious occasion. Women wear beautiful sarees and adorn themselves with jewellary, and visit temples to offer their special prayers to goddess Parvati. A special sweet called ‘ghewar’ is prepared and distributed as Prasad or divine offering.

Why do we perform aarti

Posted on Updated on

Towards the end of every ritualistic worship (puja or bhajan) of the Lord, we perform the aarti. This is always accompanied by the ringing of the bell and sometimes by singing, playing of music.Manas DresswallaIt is referred to as the auspicious light. Holding the lighted lamp in the right hand, we wave the flame in a clockwise circling movement to light the entire form of the Lord. Each part is revealed individually and also the entire form of the Lord. As the light is waved we either do mental or loud chanting of prayers or simply behold the beautiful form of the Lord, illumined by the lamp. We experience an added intensity in our prayers and the Lord’s seems to manifest a special beauty at that time. At the end of the aarti we place our hands over the flame and then gently touch our eyes and the top of the head. The philosophical meaning of aarti – the sun, moon, stars, lightning and fire are the natural sources of light..Therefore as we perform  the aarti chant. It is there where the sun does not shine, Nor the moon, stars and lightning then from this small flame everything shines in front of  Lord and by his light alone,we all illumined.
