Highly pious and peaceful form or the one who is in meditation, Brahmacharini, literally means, ‘one who constantly meditates on the Supreme Being’. The sufferings Sati and Parvati had to undergo in their respective births to attain Lord Shiva as husband are also related to this form of Durga.She is also known as Tapashcharini, Aparna and Uma. She holds a rosary and Kamandal in her hand is the phase of devi before her marriage. Even today some of the most important Vratas observed in different parts of India by women is based on the strict austerities followed by Brahmacharini.
The puja is performed with flowers & especially red flowers is then she is adorned with Panchanmrita, sindur, chawal & kumkum. Her favorite is a garland of Lotus. Attainment of Calm & Peace is guaranteed by her puja & bachelors are guaranteed their suitable partners.
Mantra: Brahmacharini Dhyana mantra is recited on the second day of Durga Navratri.
Dadhanakara Padmabhyam akshamala kamandalam |
Devi prasidathu mayi brahmacharinya nuththama ||
Which means- May the supreme Brahmachari Durga, who holds rosary and kamandalu in her lotus hands and whose nature is to attain Sachchidanandamaya Brahmaswarupa the Existence-Knowledge-Bliss absolute, be propitious on me. Devi is Devi’s that phase when Maa Parvati before marriage was Devi Yogni and Devi Tapsvini.
